Elks Essay Winners

Roxboro Community School can boast of five winners in the 2019 Elks Americanism Essay Contest. District Winners in Division I were sixth graders Declan Harendeen in First Place and Mason Grace in Third Place. Division II winners were seventh grader Zoe Godard in First Place, eighth grader Lauren Talley in Second and eighth grader John Stultz in Third Place. Zoe Godard also earned the title of Third Place in the State Division II. The theme for this year’s competition was “What Makes You Proud of America?” Kyle Puryear, District Americanism chair, presented the awards today. He was accompanied by John Bullock, president-elect of the NC Elks State Association and Derrick Sims, exalted ruler of the Roxboro Elks. RCS Managing Executive Director Dave Ebert said, “We are very proud and excited that our RCS students were able to bring home five of the six awards in the essay contest. We also appreciate the hard work the teachers did getting these students ready.” Those teachers are April Cobb, Anna Foster and Beth Stultz.
