Jill Clayton receiving Rock Star Teacher award

Today, Roxboro Community School (RCS) Health Science teacher Jill Clayton was named Rock Star Teacher 2022- 2023 by North Carolina Association for Public Charter Schools (NCAPCS) Executive Director Rhonda Dillingham.

Clayton said, "I am honored to have received The Rock Star Teacher Award by the NC Association for Public Charter Schools. I truly love teaching. I try to make learning fun for my students and I hope that, even if in a small way, I will have a positive impact on their lives."

RCS high school principal Darkarai Bryant said, "I'm excited that Mrs. Clayton has been selected as a Rock Star Teacher, because she is.  She provides authentic educational opportunities for her students, and is willing to go above and beyond on a daily basis in the interest of learning and student support."

Clayton has been at RCS for the past five years, after a successful career in science.  In addition to Biotech Health Science, she teaches Personal Finance. In his nomination of Clayton,  Bryant noted that she built the RCS health science program from scratch, developing the curriculum and writing grants to purchase equipment and supplies for the courses.

Through the Rock Star recognition, NCAPCS highlights stand-out teachers who have had a positive influence on students, other staff members and their communities. Clayton received a $500 grant for her classroom and free registration to the NCAPCS annual conference.
