Mrs. Amanda Carter

This week, Roxboro Community School Math teacher Amanda Carter was selected as the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics Outstanding Secondary Mathematics Teacher for 2022-2023 for RCS and the education region.

Carter said, “it is an honor to have been nominated by our administration here at RCS and then to be chosen is even more awesome!”

RCS Managing Executive Director Darkarai Bryant said “Mrs. Carter has done an exceptional job since starting at RCS. She pays attention to detail, does not accept ‘good enough’ from her students and supports the total school program.”

This is Carter’s third year at RCS. She has taught both CP and Honors Math III for the past two years and added a section of Honors Math I this year. “I have been teaching math for 18 years and I still love what I do,” Carter said. “I love it when students have their "light bulbs" come on especially when the math concept is difficult; it truly is rewarding.”

Along with teaching, Bryant said Carter has been an inspiration to new RCS teachers, helping motivate and provide them with information at new teacher orientations. She has also served as a cross country and basketball coach at RCS. “She is an asset to our school community,” Bryant said.

As an award honoree, Carter will receive a free one-year membership in NCCTM and will be honored at the NCCTM 2022 Annual Conference in Winston-Salem this November.
