Student Spotlights

Meredith Cates, Macee Bowes, Leah Griffin, Ella Horner, and Lyndley Gentry

This week’s student spotlight is a little different. Instead of a middle school and a high school spotlight, we have a group of eighth grade students we want to highlight! Meredith Cates, Macee Bowes, Ella Horner, Leah Griffin, and  Lyndley Gentry are exemplary students in and out of the classroom. They all take honors classes and even some high school courses. Outside the classroom, they have shown kindness to others around them. Most of these girls have been friends since the sixth grade and this year they chose to befriend a fellow student.

These ladies were nominated by some of their teachers and Exceptional Children’s (EC) Coordinator, Will Paul. Paul explained that these ladies demonstrated the true characteristics of developing a friendships with others. “Each of them has a unique disposition and manners which has allowed them to befriend a fellow peer,” Paul said. “They have included this peer into their circle allowing her to socially interact with them at lunch which in turn has allowed this student to feel included and to build her confidence level and self-esteem.”

He shared that these ladies went out of their way to do something special for this student’s birthday, which made her feel so special and loved. Paul said “ I am continuously impressed by these young ladies, their abilities as well as their positive attitudes.”

These ladies were all excited to be our spotlights this week. They all said that having good friendships is important, especially in school. They also explained that friendship is knowing that there is always someone there who has your back and will go through hard things with you.

We are so grateful to have wonderful students like these!
