Cole Montague at Stanford University

Rising Roxboro Community School (RCS) senior Cole Montague is spending his summer in California, studying at The Stanford Summer Session. The summer session is held at Stanford University between mid-June and mid-August.

The program is available to gifted students from around the world who are either invited or apply to the program during the preceeding year. Students are provided an opportunity to take and receive credit for college classes offered by Stanford during the summer.

These classes can range from biotechnology to economics and more, Cole said. "What I personally like about Stanford is the walkability of the campus and the quality of education one receives here," he said. "The teachers in the classes you attend are invested in the subject, and more likely than not possess doctorates in the subject of the class. It is a wonderful program that has offered me a leg up in terms of not only education, but social development and how I wish to navigate college when I attend after (RCS) graduation in 2023," he concluded.

Cole is also a member of the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).

The Society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment. The announcen1ent was made by NSHSS co-founder and president James W. Lewis on July 13.
