This year, five Roxboro Community School (RCS) seniors received national recognition from the College Board. George Montague, Georgia Goodson, Lauren Talley, Morgan Vander Poppen and Nicholas Keizer were recently honored for their academic achievement.

Every year, College Board awards national recognition to students who have outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, or AP Exams through four recognition awards: National African American Recognition Award, (NAARA) National Hispanic Recognition Award, (NHRA) National Indigenous Award, (NIA), and National Rural and Small Town Award (NRSTA) to recognize academic honors in underrepresented students.

RCS students Montague (NRSTA), Goodson (NAARA), Talley (NRSTA), Vander Poppen (NRSTA), and Keizer (NRSTA) received this recognition for their exceptional scores on college preparation tests.

Vander Poppen said, “I am over the moon and grateful for the recognition.”

Talley said of her honor, “It was such a blessing to see the hard work I've put into my classes recognized on a national level.”

Goodson said, “I’m also very thankful that I can include this academic achievement on my college applications.”

This recognition can boost college application success.

RCS high school principal Darkarai Bryant, said, “These awards are a testament to each of these students’ dedication to academic excellence. As the principal at RCS, I know the staff and school community also take pride in having these students represent our school in this manner.”
