Larry Yarborough and Lindalyn Kakadelis

North Carolina state Rep. Larry Yarborough earned recognition recently as a “Charter Champion” by the N. C. Coalition for Charter Schools.

Lindalyn Kakadelis, executive director of the Coalition, said, “Rep. Yarborough understands that children from all families and backgrounds deserve the chance to choose a school that’s best for them.  On behalf of the 130,000 public charter school students in North Carolina, we’re grateful for his support in the legislature.”

Yarborough’s wife, Dr. Kimberly Yarborough, was a long-time member of the Roxboro Community School (RCS)  Board of Directors. The Yarboroughs’ three children graduated from RCS. Both Larry and Kimmie Yarborough have been extremely supportive of the school since its inception in 2005.

Managing Executive Director Dave Ebert said, “I greatly appreciate Rep. Yarborough’s commitment and support of charter schools, and especially Roxboro Community School. He has gone over and above to make sure all families have a choice in their child’s education.”

Public charter schools are a free, public alternative to traditional public schools and are available to all. They complement, rather than compete with, traditional public schools by offering innovative teaching methods and more flexible curriculum options. Students do not need to live in a particular zone, or even in the same county, to attend a public charter school.
