Roxboro Community School (RCS) senior Tori Bailey received the 17th Lewis “Eddie” Winstead Memorial Scholarship today.
A December fundraiser and all-star basketball game raise money for scholarships for RCS and Person High School (PHS) athletes who plan to go to a four-year college and major in a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) field.
Bailey plans to study graphic design at UNC-Charlotte next year.
The scholarship is in memory of Eddie Winstead, a stand-out student athlete at PHS. His family decided the scholarship was the perfect way to honor his memory.
The award letter for the scholarship was delivered to Bailey at RCS by Winstead’s mother, Dr. Rachel Winstead Warren, and sisters, Cassandra Gilbert and Tiffany Collins.
We are #bulldogproud of Tori!

Today, February 15, is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day. We at Roxboro Community School (RCS) want to recognize and show appreciation for our School Resource Officer (SRO) Ty Whitlow.
SROs are carefully selected, specifically trained, sworn law enforcement officers assigned by an employing law enforcement agency to work with schools using community-oriented policing concepts. Ty builds relationships with RCS students and staff and helps the school run smoothly in many ways.
Ty comes to RCS via the Person County Sheriff's Department. The school has long enjoyed a good working relationship with the Sheriff's Department.
The SRO assignment is unique within the law enforcement profession. These officers fill a three-part role, serving as informal mentors or counselors, law educators and law enforcement officers to support the students and communities they serve. They are valuable and essential members of the education community who deserve unwavering respect and support from the public in the pursuit of keeping schools and students safe.
